(Kelvin Lim, Mike Holmes & Seth Atkins)

I’m pretty sure you’re familiar with the face of Holmes on Homes & Holmes Inspection profiled on TV. Mike and his team was in Calgary recently having visited various projects and communities around the city. I had the opportunity to visit a Holmes Approved Custom Home , (insert shameless plug here…of which I’m a part of), and meet him in person on a site tour. I must say, he’s no different in person than on TV, he’s honest, upfront and willing to provide tips on the job site, “Is it crown in or out when framing a exterior wall?” By now, I’m sure any fan can attest, that building to code, is a bare minimum. Striving for a minimum of 25% increase over code is ideal. The home is rich with green technology such as Solar PV and Solar Thermal. The Holmes Group ensures that during the construction process, no shortcuts are taken. Exterior membranes, when installed, should be lapped correctly and roofing is installed according to industry standards, etc. It’s like having a second set of eyes. There’s nothing like owning a new Holmes Approved Home and having the peace of mind, if you “Make it Right” the first time.

I’m excited to see my Climate Change Central rebate cheque for my washer, I had almost forgotten about it. Mind you, it arrived within their stated time frame of 6-8 weeks.

The rebate will no longer apply after March 31st. So if you are thinking of purchasing a new washer, do so before the end of March. For more info, check out Climate Change Central’s website: http://www.climatechangecentral.com/

Hope everyone had a safe and merry holidays!. Going to kick in the new year by doing……..laundry. Boooo, is what most of you would say…

Capturing some significant sales over extended Boxing week, we decided to pick up a much needed washer and dryer. Received great professional service at a local store and not only was the delivery call narrowed down to a 4 hour window via phone call, but they also called again one hour prior! What service! (PM me for details if you want to know more).

Previously owning a energy star top-loading washer, a front loading washer has a significant advantage of saving approximately 35-50% of water use. Not only are you saving on water but significant energy use as well. The dryer would also save energy (even though ALL dryers are not energy star rated) via a built moisture sensor, ie the dryer will automatically stop when clothes are dry. Both the washer and dryer are quiet enough to have a phone conversation a foot away from the machine. Great! Another bonus is that the Alberta government is providing $100 (for replacing your old washer with a government approved washer ) until funding supplies last. Information can be found here. http://www.climatechangecentral.com/my-rebates/clothes_washer. According to their info, the pay back period is within 5 years of upgrading your washer. More reason to recycle your old machine. I was informed as part in stores purchase, your old machine would be carefully stripped apart and parts recycled…ie no dumping at the local landfill. Double bonus…or is that triple? Anyways, take some time to invest in a front loader if you haven’t done so and happy washing.
